awards / resume (PAN DOWN) 2024 Solo Exhibit | Shore Road Gallery - Managed by Chris Caraviello | Ogunquit, Maine
2023 Solo Exhibit | Cliff House Exhibition Hall | Jan 11 - May 20 | Ogunquit-York, Maine 2022 Solo Exhibit | Peace of My Mind Exhibit | Speers Gallery at Kennebunk Library, ME 2020 Honorable Mention | Newburyport Art Association, MA | "Olde Stone, Winter", watercolor 2019 2nd Place Award | Roux & Cyr International Fine Art Gallery, Portland, ME, "Boothbay Harbor, September" | Juror: Claudette Gamache 2019 Best Work in Acrylic | Newburyport Art Association, MA | "East Boothbay" | Juror: Erin Becker, Exec Director | Cambridge Art Association | Comment: "I really enjoyed Hopkins painting style and composition - the trees that punctuate and then fade into the stark landscape, a hint of water, and a vast expanse of sky."
2019 Honorable Mention | Newburyport Art Association, MA | "Beach Cottages", oil | Juror: Erin Becker, Exec Director, Cambridge Art Association, MA | Comment: "This is quintessential New England - beach shacks on a dreary day. I was drawn to the small scale, which draws the viewer into this intimate scene, as well as the weathered colors of the buildings. The bold red under-painting provides a nice juxtaposition to the muted tones in the work, and pull the eye around, asking the viewer to revisit the scene."
2018 Honorable Mention | Newburyport Art Association, MA, "Winter Light", oil | Jurors: Donald Jurney & Todd Bonita | Comments:"We loved the strong graphic quality that lends a simplicity to the success of the abstract design armature. Excellent balance of light and dark shapes."
2016 Honorable Mention | Newburyport Art Asso, MA | "View at Ogunquit River", oil | Jurors: Paula Estey, Paula Estey Gallery & Sandy LePore, LePore Fine Art Gallery, Newburyport, MA. Comments: "The soft color palette and delicate expression of nature feels like a summer day. Very inviting as if the hot sun has muted the colors and made one feel as relaxed and lazy as a day on vacation."
2016 Honorable Mention | Newburyport Art Association, MA | "Passing Storm", oil | Jurors: Valerie Stainton Millios, Valeries Gallery, Newburyport, MA & Cathy Connor, Connor/Summers Gallery, Newburyport, MA. Comments: "The limited color palette & absence of detail combine to emphasize the main subject of the painting: The moving weather changes. The artist has achieved the feeling of a storm having passed by and you are left with a serene seascape."
2014 Honorable Mention | Newburyport Art Asso, MA | "Hillside, October", oil
Juror: Ron Crusan, Ogunquit Museum of American Art, ME 2014 Honorable Mention | Newburyport Art Asso, MA, "Moody Point", oil | Juror: Mary Harding, George Marshall Store Gallery, York, Maine | Juror's comment: "A jaunty, angular perspective makes this painting very appealing and lively."
2014 Best of Show, Newburyport Art Association, MA | "Snow and Pines", acrylic | Juror: Mary Harding, George Marshall Store Gallery, York, Maine | Juror's comment: "Bigger is not always better as this small acrylic painting exemplifies. The artist has used a minimal range of color and a strong graphic composition. When painting a landscape it is not necessary to have a level horizon, or any horizon for that matter. The raking angled light, cut off tree tops and square format all provide interest and tension."
2013 Best of Show, Newburyport Art Asso, MA, "Winter Light"| acrylic | Jurors: Diane Tuite, MaineCollege of Art&Lucas Spivey, Monserrat College of Art | Comments: "Hopkins not only exhibits an extraordinary comprehension of light but she also manipulates the acrylic deftly, mixing the colors and moving the paint around the canvas to fully exploit it's texture and body in ways that best serve her subject matter" D.Tuite / "Madeleine uses an intertonal palette of muddied tans and periwinkles to build the overlapping limbs of the forest. Her scumbled layers of linework are an appropriate use of a fast-drying medium such as acrylic" L. Spivey
