About the Artist
Hopkins' paintings are directly influenced by her
experiences in life, as well as her surroundings.
Originally from Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, life
in Maine provided for her a vital gift that changed
her life. The influences of that life are evident in
her paintings. Her views reflect an emotional
response to nature, capturing moments of light
and movement. The play of color and composition
speak volumes in her paintings. Her influences
can be found in the soulful paintings of Vermeer,
Rembrandt and Morisot as well as in the work
of contemporary artists such as Bok, Swift and
Carpenter.
Hopkins is a 1982 graduate of Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, Rhode Island, USA
with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Illustration. She began her career in Philadelphia as a corporate
interior designer. After relocating to Southern Maine, Hopkins left corporate interiors to paint and
design independently. In the early 90's she owned and managed an art gallery representing 30
artists, as well as her own work. She then turned her focus to studio work and plein-air painting.
She has illustrated for architects and designed houses for builders. In 2003, Hopkins was
commissioned to illustrate the Designer Showhouse and several of the interior rooms for Yankee
Magazine of New England, receiving national recognition. She illustrated the
MaineCoastCottage.com website which received the Golden Web Award in 2003 and 2005.
